Etnies Showers Adidas With Beer and Holiday Cheer

Dec. 5, 2008

In an attempt to cut back and save some cash this holiday season Adidas announced that it had officially canceled their annual employee holiday parties. But alas all holiday cheer is not lost, rival shoe maker Etnies is coming to the rescue. On December 8th the Sole Tech brand and PBR will be coming to Portland, OR, beer in hand, to throw a party exclusively for Adidas employees.

The annual end of the year parties are reported to cost Adidas 6.3 million dollars (must be a hell of a party...) and as Adidas Group Chairman Herbert Hainer put it, "we believe that the current climate does not offer and occasion to party". But that wont stop Etnies from having a good time and spreading the love. With the help of Pabst Brewing Company donating to the cause, free PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon, like we had to tell you that) will be served beginning at 7:00 at My Father's Place Bar and the party will go till they kick em' out.

You might think its a bit of a "bold" move for a relatively smaller company like Etnies to drive up the coast from So Cal and throw a party just to mock a massive rival like Adidas, but for a company so deeply involved with its skater roots its just part of the game. Even CNBC took time out of there morning stock market coverage to bring viewers the story. According to the CNBC report Etnies VP, Don Brown, said the party will cost "probably all of $1,000." So pretty much for about a 1,000 bucks, Etnies throws a party, has a great time, makes fun of a giant competitor and is swimming in mountain of press.....genius. Guess who is saying "Ho, Ho, Ho" now.
